NEVADA STATE MEET 

Centennial's Iyonna Codd Zips To All-Time Bests In 100, 200

The Nevada state meet was held at Liberty High in Henderson on Friday and Saturday in sunny weather with temperatures in the low to mid 90s. 

Centennial junior Iyonna Codd became the fastest girl in state history, smashing state meet records and all-time Nevada bests in the 100 and 200 meters.

Sage Ridge sophomore Chloe Huyler broke 1A meet records in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters. Galena sophomore Eleanor Raker broke the 5A meet record in the 3,200.

Palo Verde’s Nasir Tucker won the 100-200-long jump combo. Adelson’s Kaelin Gowdy swept the 1A 100, 200 and 400.

5A RESULTS

Boys Team Champion: Faith Lutheran and Liberty Tie (87 Points). Faith Lutheran’s Logan Scott (4:15.10) won an epic 1,600 final over Reno’s Eric Ortega Gammill (4:16.05). Scott came back Saturday morning with another win over Ortega-Gammill in the 3,200 meters (9:26.01 to 9:34.91).

Palo Verde freshman Evan Odle won the high jump at 6-4, tying him for seventh on the DyeStat national freshman list. Bishop Gorman sophomore Derek Meadows won the 300m hurdles (36.73) by .004 over McQueen’s Jaden LaGrone. Meadows’ time makes him US#8 and the top sophomore.

Palo Verde’s Nasir Tucker won the 100 meters (10.77), 200 (21.33w) and long jump (24-1). He was second in the 400 (47.87) behind Liberty's Ronnie Kendrick (47.63).

Faith Lutheran’s Preston Beery won the shot put (56-6.50) and the discus (164-2).

Girls Team Champion: Liberty (127 points). Centennial’s Iyonna Codd was the headliner of the meet after breaking all-time Nevada records. After running a wind-aided 100 prelim in 11.46 she came back to the final to run a wind legal 11.64 into a -1.4 headwind. She broke the 200 meters record with a time of 23.62. The junior also won the 400 in 54.37 for a third personal best.

Galena’s Eleanor Raker continued her distance dominance at the 5A level with wins in the 800 (2:15.31), 1,600 (4:57.76) and a new meet record in the 3,200 (10:29.14). Liberty’s multi-talented A’lia Matavao won the shot put (43-0), long jump (18-2), ran on the second place 4x100 relay (48.66) and placed second in the high jump (5-2).

Kaylee Daniel from Coronado won her second straight pole vault title with a personal-best clearance of 13 feet.

4A RESULTS

Boys Team Champion: Shadow Ridge (181 points).  Shadow Ridge made an early statement with a first event win in the 4x800 (8:10.82). Evander Thomas recorded wins for “The Ridge” in the 100 (10.95) and 200 (21.83w). Somerset Sky Pointe sophomore Jack Medina won the 800 (1:58.06) and the 3,200 (9:52.81) and placed second in the 1,600 by less than a second to Shadow Ridge’s Carson Wetzel (4:27.08 to 4:27.77). Shadow Ridge scored in all field events, especially in the pole vault where the Mustangs placed 1-2-3-4 with junior Chase Juden winning at 13-0.

Girls Team Champion: Palo Verde (151 points). The Panthers of Palo Verde scored wins in the pole vault with Selma Eros (9-0) and the 100m hurdles with Tia Brown (15.38). Their title was based on team depth in most every other event. Canyon Springs sophomore Jasmine Davis won the 100 (12.12), 200 (24.65) and 300 hurdles (43.51). The Okuda family of Shadow Ridge had a great distance day with Leah and Elynn going 1-2 in the 800 and 1,600. The order was flipped, Elynn then Leah, in the 3,200.The sisters amassed 54 points in those three events.

3A RESULTS

Boys Team Champion: Moapa Valley (123 points). The Pirates of Moapa Valley used depth in the distances to secure the win. Ethan Witter won the 800 (2:00.21), Mordechai Yadegar II won the 1,600 (4:29.54) and also placed second in the 3,200. Lowry’s Noman Aguirre won the shot put (51-3.50) and discus (158-9).

Girls Team Champion: Elko (88 points). Elko got wins from Tyra Christean in the 300m hurdles (44.84), Abigail Ramirez in the 800 (2:22.91) and the 4x800 Relay (9:46.30). Spring Creek’s Kiely Munson won the 1.600 (5:26.78), the 3.200 (11:57.64) and placed second in the 800 (2:22.96). Fawn Higgins of Clark won the 200 in 25.28w and also placed third in the 400 with 60.74.

2A RESULTS

Boys Team Champion: Lake Mead Christian (123 points). Incline junior Noah McMahan dominated the distance races with wins in the 800 (2:00.48), 1,600 (4:28.57) and 3,200 (9:50.81).

Girls Team Champion: North Tahoe (131.5 points). North Tahoe dominated this division with a 54.5-point win over Lake Mead Christian. Lincoln County senior Abby Mathews won the 200 (26.21w) ,400 (59.83) and 100m hurdles (16.35). North Tahoe freshman Britta Johnson won the 1,600 (5:23.95) and the 3,200 (12:06.62) and also placed second in the 800 (2:27.31). 

1A RESULTS

Boys Team Champion: Sierra Lutheran (120 points). Whittell freshman Logan Robertson swept the distance races (2:08.52/5:02.23/10:47.34). Green Valley Christian’s Judah Withey swept the shot put and discus (48-8.75/134-8).

Girls Team Champion: Whittell (91 points).  Adelson’s Kaelin Gowdy won the 100 meters (12.67), 200 (25.84w) and 400 (1:02.30). Sage Ridge’s Chloe Huyler was sensational in the distance races, breaking 1A meet records in the 3,200 (10:26.12) and 1,600 (4:51.84). Sister Hannah Huyler won the 800 in 2:36.86.
